February 2026 saw the first flight of the DH 53 Hummingbird in over 90 years. After a couple of ‘hops’ that day the team were informed it was only meant to do taxiing, as not all the correct paperwork had been submitted. Then in June a genuine flight was attempted, as the weather conditions were judged to be suitable. The aircraft flew roughly halfway down the airfield runway—about 500 to 700 yards—before it was forced to land.
