Museum’s refurbished Comet Café hosts Macmillan Coffee Morning

The de Havilland Aircraft Museum held its fifth Macmillan Cancer Support coffee morning recently. Although the final total has yet to be announced, it is almost certain to exceed the £750 raised last year. Organiser and museum volunteer Lesley Kazer commented ‘I am delighted with this year’s total. It’s a great social event too. Most of our 200 volunteers tend to work on a given day each week, so it is an excellent opportunity for them and their partners to meet and mingle. Furthermore, as the café is open to the public, we had significant support from casual visitors’. For the first time, the fundraiser was held in the Museum’s Comet Café area, following its £30,000 refurbishment. Its modern spacious seating is now complemented by fixtures and fittings from a BAe 146 and Trident, both built at the Hatfield factory. New and enlarged shelving enables improved display of clothing, model kits, books and memorabilia.

Macmillan Cancer Support has raised over £310 million through its coffee mornings which began in 1990.
