Ken Tempest DFC – Mosquito Navigator Pathfinder Force

The Museum is sad to report the passing of Ken Tempest DFC, a Mosquito Pathfinder navigator and long time supporter of the museum.

Ken passed away peacefully in hospital on 2nd June aged 93.
Part of Ken’s wartime combat service was with RAF 8 Group The Pathfinder Force (139 Squadron) as a navigator on Mosquitoes flying 43 combat operations.
He participated in the last bomber combat operation of WW2 over Kiel, flying last sortie on 2nd May 1945.

After the war he re-joined BOAC as a navigator and later qualified as a pilot, flying Britannia’s, Constellations and VC10s until retirement in June 1975.
During his career he flew the Queen and in 1943 flew the War Cabinet from The Quebec Conference.
