Award for Voluntary Service

Our volunteers were honoured with The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2022, the highest award for local volunteer groups, equivalent to an MBE. Presented by the Duke of Gloucester, this award recognizes the team’s exceptional dedication to restoring iconic aircraft, such as the Mosquito, and providing excellent visitor experiences.

Comet Café Volunteer

What does a Comet Café Volunteer do?
Are you people-orientated and like interacting with visitors to enhance their museum
visit with a nice hot or cold drink and a bite to eat? Join the Comet Café Crew and
help us make the most of our wonderful new restaurant!

What will you be doing?
You will carry out the day-to-day operation of the Comet Café by serving customers,
preparing light snacks and serving hot and cold drinks. Cash handling and till
operating is also a part of this role, along with helping to keep the café area clean
and tidy.

What’s required for this role?
An interest in catering and a commitment to good customer service is required for
this role. Independent working and confidently interacting with our visitors, especially
during busy times, are important elements of this role.

When do we need you?
Whole or part days (AM 10.30 – 13.30 or PM 13.30 – 17.00)

Training and support

Full training will be given alongside ongoing support from staff and other volunteers
as needed.

Admissions Desk Volunteer

What does an Admissions Desk Volunteer do?
Our Volunteer Admissions Assistants help us to run the museum on a day-to-day
basis, providing a warm welcome to our visitors and acting as de Havilland Aircraft
Museum ambassadors.

What will you be doing?

This role is dynamic and varied. You’ll be multitasking throughout the day, with a mix
of responsibilities including customer service, admission ticket sales, promoting Gift
Aid donations, shop duties, and providing information about the Museum. If you
enjoy a fast-paced environment and love engaging with people, this is the right
opportunity for you.

What’s required for this volunteer position?
Great face-to-face and telephone communication, and customer service skills are
important for this role, as well as confidence in working with computers (till training
will be given). Some sales skills would be beneficial to up/cross-sell Aeroshop
products and encourage Gift Aid donations.
